What a warm, wet summer we are having here in Florida.  The landscape has become verdant green and the summer flowers and butterflies in my garden are peaking right now.  We punctuated our summer with a little mountain trip evidenced by the header photo above which is overlooking Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina.

There’s quite a bit coming up – so first things first: please mark your calendars for the following show – I sure hope you can make it out.  Larry Mangum’s songwriter circles are always a blast – lots of variety and something for everyone.  It it always so wonderful to see your faces at shows and to feel your support.  Thanks for being there!

In late August I will begin recording songs for my next CD at Gatorbone Studios with Lis & Lon Williamson.  They did such a great job with RISE and I am super excited to be starting on another project with them.  It is just a wondrous thing to watch songs evolve in this setting, and it is all new material. Stay tuned!

This summer has brought a few new musical developments that I’d like to share with you.  In June I had the wonderful opportunity to perform with Pierce Pettis at Sandhill Stage.  What a thrill it was. Pierce took on four of my brand new songs for the show and we performed them on the fly with only a couple of hours of preparation.  I added some harmony vocals on his sets.  Giving up the idea of perfection, and just having fun was our goal.  Thank you Pierce for a very special and memorable experience!  Here’s a couple of  photos from that show.

After the show I had the pleasure of meeting an old friend of Pierce’s, Richard Gilewitz. Richard  is an amazing instrumentalist and super nice guy.  He invited me to work with him and we have started coming up with  arrangements for  some of my songs.  How lucky can a gal be? You should check out his website, and if you are a guitarist – check out his guitar camps coming up – he’s a master of finger-style guitar.

On top of this my friend, the inimitable Lauren Heintz  invited me to work with her. We got together very recently and discovered a wonderful musical chemistry and vocal blend.  It doesn’t hurt that we both love each other’s songs.  I encourage you to check out her website and listen to some of her songs, they are wonderful.  I can’t wait for you to hear us together, as we are planning to head in that direction.   It is so exciting for me to be playing with others after having worked solo for so many years. It’s pretty much a dream come true – a life filled with music!

Finally,  I’ve been working on booking acts for Sandhill Stage.  Please check out the calendar there and keep checking for updates as the season develops.  This season I am trying to highlight some wonderful Florida based musicians in some really jam packed double header shows.  Hope you can make it out for some of these.

Here’s hoping the rest of your summer will be delightful and that you’ll be all rested and ready for a music filled Fall!

Cheers,
Elaine Mahon
